A Three Phase Program To Accelerate Your Career

When you are accepted into the Sales Leadership Development Program (Sales LDP) you’ll have an opportunity to experience an accelerated program designed to build a thorough foundation in Wine & Spirits Sales and Sales Management. Upon completion of our program, you will have built a solid foundation towards a career that can span Sales, Fine Wine, Distributor Management, and beyond.

Our industry is decentralized with Suppliers, Distributors and Retail Customers all playing a unique part of the sales cycle. Your assignments will be actively involved in developing marketing strategy across those 3 key areas as much as they are in sales execution itself.

Candidates who succeed in our program generally have leadership experience in their background and are definitely results oriented. Program graduates are almost always self-assured, outgoing, great problem solvers and have a passion for building relationships. Excellent academic performance is a must. All Sales LDP participants begin as a Sales Representative. You’ll have sales training and education classes once a week for 8+ weeks. During this time, you’ll also be able to ride along with sales leaders, designed to provide you exposure to the entire sales process. Shortly after, and accompanied by your District Manager, you will start to make sales calls to existing Gallo customers. Your role is to support these existing accounts which will entail building relationships while you build our brands and maximize their sales exposure.

This is not a cold-calling program. You’ll have extensive support and resources behind you all the way, along with the most advanced sales technology. This phase can span an average of 18-24 months, depending on your progress and development.


The next phase of the Sales LDP Program will include a promotion to District Sales Manager (DM). In this role, you will be responsible for managing a team of 4-7 Sales Representatives. This tier focuses on developing your leadership, strategic thinking, and critical problem-solving skills, while introducing you to forecasting and sales strategy.

As a DM, you’ll continue building relationships while representing Gallo at marquee industry events. You’ll give sales presentations, educate new Sales Reps and will be well on your way to becoming a wine and spirits expert. This leadership rotation will last up to 24 months.


The third tier in the Sales LDP is a promotion into one of the following positions. Traditional roles include:

Market Development Manager (MDM) - In this role, you represent Gallo in the field selling to accounts, working with Distributor Representatives, and training new Sales Representatives.

Distributor Area Sales Manager (AM) - In this role, you’ll manage a team of 2-4 District Managers or Customer Development Account Managers, selling programs at a corporate level to some of our largest customers such as Wal-Mart and Kroger.

This can also be a great time to explore opportunities in Customer Development, Luxury Wine & Spirits, Shopper Marketing, On-Premise Sales, or E-Commerce. The purpose of this phase is to combine your individual leadership skills from Phase I and your team leadership skills from Phase II to produce results at an organizational level.

First, you must be invited after making contact with one of our representatives on your campus. We are very selective in schools and candidates. Check your career center calendar of events to see if we will be on your campus this semester! If invited to meet, you’ll experience a dynamic series of interviews. Finalists will be invited to a recruiting conference, where you will have the opportunity to interact with Gallo’s senior leaders, who are there to help you better understand your future career path.
